What is Praguespotting?
• Insider's view of a city
• Way of looking at things
• Invitation to share certain type of experiences
What is it good for?
• Making the most of travelling
• Generating personal metaphores
• Practicing awareness
• Having fun
How does it work?
• When on holidays, you are cut off from daily routines, ongoing issues and binding networks. Most people immediately substitute those anchoring phenomena with various guides, programmes, schedules and to-do-to-see lists deeply rooted in their education and social affiliation. On the other hand, such a unique situation can be taken as a great opportunity to refresh both mind and senses, to learn something of oneself. Imagine:
• Each human artefact existed once solely in the mind of a single person. So whenever you look around in a populated area, you find yourself in the middle of a materialized collective mental landscape.
• If you don't bind your mind with preprocessed stuff, entering an unknown territory can be like entering a dream. As in a dream, things that address you tell you something of yourself. It is however much easier to remember, it is even possible to record and to create.
Praguespotting is a way to percieve a city. It is a justification of wandering, too.
Spotting is my view of my city. It had evolved for several years until I finally decided to give it a fixed form to be able to present it. Some of those places dissappeared in the meantime, but to me, it is a part of the game I'd like to invite you to join in.
In Bearings I offer some basic practical advice. The places listed are the places I like personally. Of course, there are many more great places in Prague. I suggest you just wander and wonder.
• There are only two forces to follow: horizon and gravity, both in a broad sense – horizon as the limit of perception, as the threshold where phenomena merge and emerge; gravity as the field that generates interactions.
Let yourself exposed. Don’t discriminate. Let your attention gravitate.
Harvest. Sieve. Weave.
